We have been to Chatsworth House a few times for beautiful walks in the countryside and to their Christmas markets which we absolutely loved (especially when Brown & Blond were there) but we've always wanted to go inside. When we discovered they had their exhibition on fashion through the ages by Gucci we knew it would be the perfect time to go and visit!
Chatsworth house is a stately house in Derbyshire and home to the Cavendish family since 1549. The first Cavendish family members of Chatsworth house was Sir William Cavendish, Treasurer of the King's Chamber and his wife, Bess of Hardwick.
In the 1560's Bess remarried to George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and in 1568 Shrewsbury was entrusted with the custody of Mary Queen of Scots who was imprisened in Chatsworth house from the 1570's onwards.
In 1608 Bess died and the house was passed to her eldest son, Henry, and his brother William Cavendish, 1st Earl of Devonshire bought the property off him.
Fashion Through The Ages
The exhibition explores five centuries of fashion and adornment at Chatsworth. House Style demonstrates the power of fashion and brings to life the captivating individuals from the Cavendish family, including Bess of Hardwick, one of the most powerful women of the 16th century.
Layering art history, fashion, jewellery, archival material, design and textiles, the exhibition is organised by theme. Highlights include exceptional couture designed by Jean Phillipe Worth and Christian Dior, together with influential contemporary garments from designers such as Gucci, Helmut Lang, Margiela, Vivienne Westwood, Erdem, Alexander McQueen, Christopher Kane and Vetements.
Here are just some of the pictures of the beautiful inside of the house and the incredible fashion.
After enjoying the amazing architecture, art and beautiful fashion inside we exited the house into the incredible 105 acre garden. The garden has something for everyone, you can explore through their rose green houses, get lost in the maze and the cool Victorian rock garden. A must, is their ice cream, its incredibly creamy and so delicious!
See it in motion!
